Why a good tech pack saves you money

A tech pack is not paperwork. It is the contract between what you imagined and what arrives in a carton eight months later. Every gap in it becomes an assumption made by somebody who has never met your customer.

Concretely, an incomplete pack costs you in three ways:

  • Sampling rounds. Each round is two to four weeks. A pack missing fit intent or measurement tolerances reliably adds one.
  • Price padding. A factory quoting against ambiguity prices the risk in. Give the specification precisely and the number comes down.
  • Arguments at inspection. If a tolerance was never written down, nobody can say a garment failed it.

You do not need expensive software

Plenty of good tech packs are a well-organised spreadsheet plus clear flat sketches. What matters is that every point above is answered somewhere, unambiguously, in one document with a version number on it.

If you are early and do not have all of this yet, that is fine — send what you have and a reference garment. We will tell you what is missing rather than guessing and quoting you for the wrong thing.

The single most useful thing you can send

A physical garment in the post. Not because your drawings are bad, but because a real sample answers questions nobody thought to ask — how the fabric behaves at the hem, how heavy it feels in the hand, how the neck recovers. It is the fastest way to get a first sample close.
