Polar fleece is a knitted fabric brushed on both faces to raise a dense nap that traps air. That trapped air is the insulation — which is why a good 280 gsm fleece can be warmer than a poor 340 gsm one. Getting there means brushing hard enough to raise the pile fully, then shearing and anti-pill finishing so the raised fibres do not tangle into bobbles the first time the garment meets a washing machine.

We knit fleece in virgin polyester and in recycled polyester made from post-consumer bottle flake, which is now the default request on European winter programmes. Sherpa — the curly, wool-look pile used for snowsuits and hooded jackets — is a related construction with a much higher, softer pile, usually bonded or used with the pile face outward.

Because fleece garments are bulky, the real cost driver is often cutting yield rather than fabric price. We plan markers against your actual size ratio before quoting, so the number you get reflects how the garment will really be cut.
